What we do
Microsoft Excel is the go-to platform when you need a fast and flexible solution in Accounting, Finance, Operations, Sales, Human Resources, or any other department. What starts as a simple model or a basic process quickly evolves into a maze of numbers and formulas that drains time and money. These Excel-based procedures can get littered with inaccurate data and lead to poor decisions that impact the bottom line.
Exclerated Edge is an education and consulting company that can help your team build dynamic business tools, convert data, streamline workflow, model financials or operations, create custom reports, and so much more. Our Story
Working near the heart of Seattle Washington—where huge companies like Microsoft, Amazon, T-Mobile, Boeing, Starbucks, and Expedia reign supreme—I expected to be overwhelmed by the software these companies used to streamline their business operations. I was shocked to discover that despite the millions of dollars invested in sophisticated software, these top tier companies still leaned heavily on the speed and flexibility of Microsoft Excel to get their work done.
I had been warned that public accounting that the work was hard, and the days were long. However, much of the work we were doing—at least at my level—was redundant, mind-numbing, and utilized only the most basic functions of Microsoft Excel. In addition, almost everything we worked on had to be reviewed through multiple layers of management…partly because Excel worksheets (and people) are inherently error prone.
As a new father, I wanted to spend more time with my family and less time “paying my dues.” Determined to find a better way, I took full advantage of the Microsoft Suite to learn about importing, exporting, and transforming data through Microsoft Access. I learned about macros and their ability automate repetitive tasks. I discovered the value of organizing data and spreadsheets in a way that would take human error out of the process.
With career stops at a Big Four accounting firm, public companies, private businesses, and several entrepreneurial ventures, I have drawn 3 conclusions about Microsoft Excel.
Excel does have limits, and most people never get anywhere near them.
Excel is often over-used for things it was never intended (e.g. data storage).
Excel can transform the way you work, and the savings are exponential.
